    November 11

This is my dad. He's holding me. My dad served in the Army--WWII, and in Viet Nam. He did thirty years and retired. The Army probably gave him a better life than he would have had in Florida at the time. My dad wasn't a service kind of guy. Once he got out of the army he was done. I think the thing he valued about his service was meeting my mom when he was stationed in Europe. (warbaby here).

He gave up a lot for this country, and in my opinion, gave a lot more than he got. When he came back to the States with my mom, it took them forever to find a place to live. Service wasn't good enough. He was a vet, but he was a Black vet, and that didn't mean anything to anyone. Still, he overcame, and eventually, Black vets were recognized for their service too.

    So anyway, my dad--handsome devil.

This is so sad. I went into the front room to set up the VCR to tape Bones.

    For tonight.

It isn't going to be on here in the States until tomorrow night. *facepalm*

Well, at least I'll be able to write.

Blue Moon is done, and I'm working on two f/f stories. Once they're finished, it's off to What if You're the One?.

He picked up the blanket wrapped bundle, barely a weight in his arms, but warm and comfortable against his shoulder. A long damped feeling flickered in his chest. Remembered holding his sister's babies, long, long ago, and how it'd felt, even if it wasn't true--like safe, and good, being close to family. Holding Dean felt like that, and that made him mad. He shouldn't feel like that about a little one who didn't belong—couldn't belong—to him. He sighed, and laid Dean down on the spare room bed. Tobe pulled another blanket over the one the boy wore and went back to his work.

Soon as the snow settled, that boy would have to go.

    I just had to share
I want to write nasty, disgusting non-con, the type that's filled with screaming and begging, just bleeds and vomits all over, the kind of stuff that calls for a warning two pages long and then needs a warning for the warning--but instead, I'm writing lil Baby!Dean has a peppermint stick. Because I *suck*. *sigh*

I'm watching Highlander reruns on SYFY(stupid fucking name) and wondering why I'm not in bed.

my word count for today--500! Woooo, I am a writing steamroller!

Whathefuck, I'm going to bed! Nitey-nite, littul bunnies!

i've been have computer problems the last few days. somehow picked up a virus while poking around the same two dozen places i always poke. i think i've killed it, but river (my computer) is still running slow. firefox has been crashing about every ten minutes, so i'm trying out chrome. no real opinion yet, but it's been up for a half hour of light surfing and hasn't crashed. my antivirus ran for thirteen hours starting last night and ending shortly before i got home from work. that doesn't include my external drive which is a terrabyte or my ipod. i think i'll make sure the main system is clean before fiddling with the others. ugh. i may actually end up writing something for WriSoMiFu. i've been avoiding that really well so far.

Posted so I remember the quote
I have to keep reminding myself that it totally counts as vegetables even if Ada isn't seated at a table and is showing every sign of enjoying it. Right now, she's really enjoying fresh oregano from the garden, every time we walk past. ("Is this a yummy leaf, Mama?" "Yes, dear." "It's oregano!")

Tobe glanced over the dead woman, gave brief thought to burying her, but shook his head. Someone else would have to take that job. He was loathe to be stuck in unfamiliar lands, snowed in, and anxious to get the boy away from a dangerous area. They'd singled him—his family—out for a reason. He picked the boy up, sat him in front of him. Reached into his duster pocket and pulled out a charm made of red thread and nails, and hung it around his small neck. Tobe pulled the duster shut around them both, and took him away from the grave of his family. "My name is Tobias Kane; you can call me Tobe, okay?"

Dean nodded and repeated it to himself, inside his head. Tobe. )

    Recognizing trees; collecting milkmen.
So I've been at my brother's in Jersey/NYC.

    Stuff what I've been doing
    ... )

... So, I'm just saying, if an irate fellow passenger in the line behind me shivs me to death with their contraband nail clippers, remember me fondly, all right? Thanks.

    Miscellany
» Saw Boba Fett playing the Amelie soundtrack on the recorder.
» Monty Python's Flying Circus ep 3 ("How to Recognize Different Types of Trees from Quite a Long Way Away") summarized by DirectTV: "Recognizing trees; collecting milkmen."
» So I haven't really been paying attention because I have no intention of seeing the movie, but I just noticed that the main (human) character of Planet 51, a white astronaut, is voiced by ... Dwayne Johnson. Or perhaps more accurately, they made the character voiced by Dwayne Johnson a white guy. In any case, I am quite uncomfortable about this.

    Fannish Stuff
Blah blah blah Doctor Who! )</blockquote>» For some reason I keep catching Criminal Minds on my brother's TV. I've only seen an episode or two before and read some crossover fanfic, but it seems to be pretty episodic while still having character development (just as someone I was speaking to on a Sanctuary comm said, actually -- *waves to [info]aethre*). I was expecting Reid to be my favorite character, and I do like him, but man, Morgan really is awesome, isn't he?
» The latest Sanctuary episode? My thoughts! )

    oh, my!
Oh, Daneel, how oddly and totally fascinated I am by your boobies--I mean--congratulations!

Don't hate, but there's a celebrity sex tape I might actually want to watch. What? I'm writing! These things pop in my head when I'm writing.

Actually, I tell a lie. I just spent two hours arranging my icons and pics. Some folks changed their names, or I had icons incorrectly tagged. *sniff* Deleted a bunch I snagged somehow without crediting and I don't like to use uncredited art. I also cleaned the bathroom, the guest room (or BG's former room), ran a load of laundry, dumped some stuff that magically turned from treasured articles to junk with the passage of the years--Yo, does anybody know what the fuck this thing is? No? Than why've we got it, fercrisake--it was a busy day. Ran up to my beloved little [info]toldthestars's with Uncle Daddy and he fixed her bike tire and we talked about our stories (and oh my god the one she's working on now--fabulous!) And this, this is what I do to get out of writing.

    What a whack-a-loon!!

    I posted before, but...

    Name: Elijah (pseudonym)

    Age:
     Sixteen and some change

    Location:
     Maryland

    About me:
I'm lazy and self-deprecating but can make light of any situation. I mostly read novels that are satiric and anti-climatic (like Bret Easton Ellis' works.) I'm a an self-proclaimed artist but can barely draw a 3-D shape and shade correctly. In my journal I write mostly of .... well, me. But I'm very interested in connecting with others who share the same love of literature as I do and understand how a book, just by reading it once, can make you feel so twisted and wrong for a whole week. (Reference to Toni Morrison's works.) I'm not highly motivated in writing a novel or completing a work, I just write whatever comes to mind--no planning, outlining, etc--which causes my "works" to be left incomplete. I'm a strong supporter in human rights, more so in the LGBT community than anything and love conversing with others about this struggle for equality, I guess. Also, I'm very into the 60s' music, culture, etc.

    What I read:
Mostly Satires, dramas, anti-climatic novels... historical fictions and novels with some homoerotica--ie The Persian Boy, hell even Lord of the Flies. A lot of beat novels(William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Anthony Burgess, etc.) Some biographies.

    What I don't read:
Fantasies (with the exception of Harry Potter), science fictions, young adult books.

What I write: Sad to say, fanfiction. The fandom, you really don't want to know... Though, recently I've written some original pieces, very few. Most of my stories reflect what I read at the time. example: If I've read a raunchy, explicit, erotica novel, my story will have some aspects of that novel but I would manipulate it to fit whatever I'm writing, etc.

    What I don’t write:
Gooey love, romance stories. Nearly all of my writings in with a bad ending (probably because I have the inability to successfully end a story on a good note).

Could you edit someone else's work?:
Pshh, no. I barely edit my own.

    What I’m looking for:
Individuals who have the same tastes as I do, I suppose.

His heart leaped—go, go, save yourself, save our boy. His hands bowed over Sammy, Sammy who was going to die with him…tears ran and the devils laughed. And then—Mary's shriek of pain cut through him, laced through with Dean's high pitched scream, it speared him. Mary shrieked again--a sound impossible for a human throat--and then the floor caved in, the roof sagged inward with a shower of sparks and clots of flame, to rest in the cellar….

    Name: Gracie

    Age:
    Nineteen.

    Location:
    Rhode Island.

    About me:
I'm an overly sarcastic, self-proclaimed nerd with aspirations of being a superhero and/or English teacher. I read the dictionary for fun. I have the most wonderful boyfriend. I'm currently taking a year off before heading to college. I started writing at around nine with Digimon fan fiction. Besides reading and writing, I enjoy about activism (GBLT related, specifically), fairy tales, fantasy, European history, musicals, poetry, psychology, rain, romance, sleeping, the beach, tea, and theatre. I struggle with depression and anxiety problems. I really feel uncomfortable describing myself in a short paragraph. Haha.

    What I read:
Anything and everything that piques my interest. I enjoy romance, fantasy, and historical fiction. I'm a big Harry Potter fan. Haha. I have a huge list of books I want to read before I become an English teacher, so that I feel prepared. I lovelovelove poetry.

    What I don't read:
Eh... there's not much I'll just flat-out reject. I'll try almost anything.

What I write: I mostly write romance, but I'm really trying to break out. I've taken a significant break from writing this past year, and I'm trying to expose myself to new styles and genres. I'd really love to write something dystopian. I've also been working on a series of short stories that take fairy tales and bring them into modern times. I took a Creative Writing class my senior year and that really interested me in breaking into different genres.

    What I don’t write:
    Enough of anything.

Could you edit someone else's work?:
Definitely. I love to help others with their writing. :]

    What I’m looking for:
Friends and encouragement/motivation to write more and expand my writing horizons.

    Name: Oscar

    Location:
    South Eastern Kentucky, United States

    About Me:
I'm a 23 year old American who has self-published himself twice. I'll soon be moving to Cleveland, Ohio to begin a new life and be closer to my fiance who we just found out is pregnant. It's going to be a strange life being a dad and all, but if anything I'm ready to make a leap of faith with the one I love so true, thusly my journey is our journey.

What I Write: I've been writing for a while now, mostly I favor short stories and compilations. I don't really let myself call myself a romance writer, but that's what I've been told I'm good at. I'm in the process of writing a novel that's dedicated to my fiance.

What I Don't Write: I write just about everything now and again, however I try to stay away from large stories unless they have a deep personal meaning to me. Anything over 100 pages is too long for me unless I can dedicate myself emotionally to it.

What I Read: I read everything, literally. I love reading and always make time for it in my life. So - hit me with your best shot.

What I Don't Read: Nothing really applies here, see above.

Can I critique someone else's work: Well, I'm not saying I can or not, but I will comment and point a few things out. I would love the same kind of attention as well.

My personal Journal: ♥ My Guardian Angel ♥

Others: Although it technically is a writing community, I could never drum up another secondary poster. If you're intrested, Penstrokes if not, well...that's okay too. ^^

    Hi friends!!
Today's the start of my vacation. Well, not so much vacation as unpaid leave. I needed some serious time to myself, or as much of that as is possible. My brother's coming at the end of the week, and I wanted to get my truly disgusting house in order. I also hope to get some guilt free writing in. So far, the story that's coming the easiest, no matter how hard I try to work on something else, is the KindaCowboy AU, which I'm calling(pretty sure on this)Non Timebo Mala. I have a serious thing for latin titles. Sound all thinky and stuff. ;)

I mention that, because I think I'm going to post bits as I write them. I usually try to wait until I *know* where I'm going so that it doesn't die in the water (arg, HATE doing that!) or take a bazillion years while I try and figure out just what the fuck I'm doing (heeellooo, Dis Pater, both you fuckers, and you,Brothers and Heroes....) so what I'm saying here is, it will be a voyage of discovery for *all* of us, whoo-hoo!

And not to get cranky on me, I am working on the J2 thingy (need a title!!) and also everything else I mentioned because I'm crazeeee.

Annnnnnnd--to be catching up on all the fic my beloveds are writing and I haven't been reading. *hangs head*

a couple of links and a funny story
first funny story: i live in new orleans. at some point around holloween the pogues were playing (possibly in conjunction with voodoo. i'm not sure.) the day after halloween a friend of mine who works at a bar sent out the following text.

Finns just got a call: 'im lookin 4 my friend hes very distinctive lookin Hes tall red hair in cowboy boot n islead singer 4 the pogues This is not a prank.'

that's right. they lost a six foot tall irish man with bright red hair and no teeth in new orleans on halloween night. they were calling every bar not in the suburbs starting with the irish ones. i just thought you'd all enjoy that.

    Ada and music
Last night Ada was very upset because she kept forgetting one of the 'words' of Summertime (and the livin' is easy). It wasn't a word -- it was a note that I sing differently on the second verse from the first.

Today, she told me on the way home from her music class that the children all have 'lighter' voices and the adults have 'darker' ones. Questioning made it clear she was talking about pitch -- she'd made up the 'light' and 'dark' nomenclature because I've never talked about pitch with her before. We talked about it for a bit.

This evening, she told her father that her voice was higher-pitched than mine, with an obvious question in her tone: had she remembered the phrasing right?

I'm pretty sure she thinks E Tu, Kahikatea, is in made-up words, though, not a real language like English or French.

    Friends...
...and now I'm thinking about Houdini. Shush, don't judge, Yer Mother's old....

I've been friended by a lot of people lately, hi folks! These friending things seem to come in waves--I know I'll chug along quietly and then all of a sudden friend folks like I'm in the grip of a friending frenzy(not as messy as a feeding frenzy but close)! You do that when a new fandom entices you. *G* And I have this magic ability to friend folks just as they give the boot to the fandom that drew me to them in the first place, hah!

Anyhoo, there are quite a few folks hopping on board and I want to say hi. It's pretty loose around here--friend me at your own risk as I tend to spam a lot, babble frequently and share inappropriately. *koff*

I'm no longer friending back journals with no content, or that only have one or two memes unless you really want me too, in which case, holler at me.

Right now, I'm mostly into Supernatural with a side of Smallville. If you came for the SV, it might be slim pickings for a while, sorry!

I've listened to a a shit ton of versions of Wayfaring Stranger, or at least it feels like it. The best version by far is Johnny Cash's. Here's the super creepy thing...I think I like Johnny Cash. SHUT UP SHUT UP. It's probably temporary insanity. Research sometimes leads you into scary places. I've been enjoying poking around a bit, looking for flavor for my million and one SpN fics, hah! I'm not doing heavy research, just enough that it kind of sounds good, y'know? That doesn't mean that I've spent my precious time writing, no...I've been reading lyrics of all kinds of folk songs. Hunh. Weird lyrics, but interesting. and now, I'm off to read some folk tales!

Also, swear to god, shoot me if I ever eat another Reese's Cup. Oy, the pain, the misery, the lactose intolerance making the eating of chocolate a somewhat masochistic activity bordering on self-abuse and in no way the fun kind. :(.
